All About Limited Edition Seeds

Limited Edition Seeds is hot in the market and make great gifts. They have become very popular over the past few years as many new hybrid varieties have been developed and are now available for the consumer. Some of these new limited edition seeds are so hot that many times they sell out or are quickly grabbed before the others can be purchased.

Fire X Indica Dominant: This new flame variety is a hot seller. It comes in at number 11 in the canine hot spot rankings. The large petite, dark blue veins and orange heads are sure to attract attention. It is also one of the rarest breeds in the show ring as only a few hundred pairs exist. There are some slight differences in appearance with the Afghani indica dominant offspring being larger than the x indica dominant offspring.

Chitral X Andarab Afghani Indica: This is a cross between the central x andarab and the Afghani. The central x andarab has thicker foliage and darker colors. The overall appearance is like the central x and the dark colored crosses are very distinct. This has proven to be one of the most popular crosses in the show ring with the highest sales percentage.

Sowing Time: The time to germinate from the seed is short. It does not take too long, about 2 weeks. Germination occurs on the underside of the leaf instead of the top. When the seeds are small, they will not cover large areas so care should be taken not to over plant. The seeds dry out very quickly.

Location: The sowed area should be relatively dry. The area should also be not more than three feet wide. The southern part of the country does not have many trees, so the climate is often humid. Southern temperatures can be extreme during the summer months.

Disease: None reported so far. If the seeds are infected, it will take about a week to two to three weeks for the seeds to dry out. There is a chance of a white blossom disease at this time but this is easily remedied. The leaves will turn yellow.

Harvest Time: The seeds should be ready to harvest within four to six weeks after planting. If they are harvested later, they will lose their potency. The flavor will decrease considerably and there is a chance of mold and mildew from developing. Limited Edition Seeds should be harvested promptly after harvest. This will prevent mold from forming.

Moisture: The area should be well moistified with moisture but not soaking wet. The seeds should be stored in a cool, dark place. Seed packets should not be stored in areas where they will be exposed to direct sunlight. Store them in a refrigerator or dry them on a wire basket.

Disease: None reported. This is probably due to limited edition seeds being non-irruptive. When purchasing, check that the seeds you are buying are of a limited edition and not just a regular seed.

Timing: When purchasing, check the date of release for the limited edition. It is common for many varieties of seeds to have a release date in March or April. If the seeds you are interested in are not on such a date, there is little harm done. However, if you are expecting an early planting, you may want to purchase the seeds earlier. It is also recommended that you purchase seeds while they are still fairly new.

How to Grow: Growing limited edition seeds is a fairly simple process. They are much easier to grow than other varieties. They also do not require as much maintenance. The main consideration is if they will grow to a certain size and not to your satisfaction. A lot of seeds are available for all varieties. If the seeds you are interested in are not in that many, go to an online garden center and find the ones that will grow best for you.

Many garden centers and local nurseries will carry limited edition seeds. Look around and you may be able to find them at an even greater price. Check the plant hardiness zone for the best growing area. Then prepare the soil by spreading it evenly and lightly. Now you are ready to start growing!
